Community Programmes in South Wales (See FEEDBACK tab)

 

 2-day workshop originally developed in conjunction with Welsh Assembly Government and South Wales Police for key community stakeholders. Delivered throughout South Wales at Cardiff, Newport and Swansea early 2010.

 

Programme Outlne:

Workshop aims:

 

1) Address the distorted interpretation of the non-violent message of the Islamic faith,

2) Referencing the wider social context of discontent within Wales/UK.

 

Workshop objectives:

 

1)    Introduce the rise of radicalised Islam within the Cardiff/Newport/Swansea/Wales/ international contexts.

2) To equip participants with the knowledge and understanding of the non-violent message of the Islamic faith; in so doing, to promote social cohesion.

 

3)    To build trust and understanding between individuals and organisations within the Cardiff, Newport and Swansea Communities.

4)    To equip trusted individuals/groups within the Cardiff/Newport/Swansea Communities with the knowledge and skills to:

        Identify vulnerable individuals

        Carry out supportive interventions

        Where appropriate, to do so in conjunction with the Channel Project.

 

5)    To arrive at a consensus on evaluating interventions to determine degrees of success with a view to building a template for good practice - with specific reference to anodised live case studies.

6)   To raise awareness of the UK governments CONTEST and PREVENT strategies and to invite participation on the local Prevent sub-group
